Fire destroys replica at Legoland

JOHOR BARU: A minor fire almost completely destroyed a replica at the Miniland section of Legoland Malaysia Resort, near here at about 8.30pm tonight.

Johor Baru Fire and Rescue Department operations officer S. Dullasi Nathan said the fire which affected the Kuala Lumpur cluster of Lego replicas was extinguished by the theme park's staff by the time firemen arrived at the scene.

The park was closed at the time of the incident.

Dullasi said further checks were conducted to ensure the fire had been completely put out. The cause of the fire was still being investigated.

"It was a small fire. The park was closed at the time, so no one was injured," he said when contacted by the New Straits Times.

A team of six firemen rushed to the scene upon receiving the distress call at about 8.40pm.

Legoland Malaysia public relations manager Deviga Doreraja confirmed that the theme park would open as usual tomorrow, and that the fire did not damage any other replicas.

She said all precautions and safety measures were in place and the affected area at the Kuala Lumpur Miniland cluster has been covered and blocked.

"The fire department has also validated the safety of the area. Operations at the park will continue as usual on Hari Raya," Deviga said.
