KUALA LUMPUR: Umno members must manage and recognise issues plaguing the party and the country, and must face the reality, or risk losing the next general election.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, issued a stern warning to party members and said if problems were not thoroughly addressed, Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) would not be able to remain as the government.
“There are many issues plaguing the party and our country. But as a part of the system, I am responsible to help our president and Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) to resolve these matters.
“We cannot lie to ourselves. We must face the reality. We’re (no longer) as strong as we used to be,” he told almost 500 Cheras Umno division delegates at the closing of their meeting, here, today.
He said members must work hard to correct the negative perception towards Umno and the party before it was too late.
Muhyiddin, who is Umno deputy president, also advised party members to work hard to improve and increase the support of the people towards Umno and BN, by going to the ground and listening to their grouses.
“If we want to remain here, we need the support of the people... not just from the Malays, but also the Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans, the Orang Asli, and the rest.”
