PETALING JAYA: Actor Afiq Muiz made headlines in 2013 when his strained relationship with his mother was made public.
Some say it was popularity that changed him, while others felt that it was his relationship with an actress at the time, as the cause of their rocky mother-son relationship.
But that was a couple of years ago.
Today, Afiq and his mother have mended their bond.
“Past is past. I’ve turned over a new leaf and has since moved on,” he said after the launch of Astro Bella’s new TV drama series Memori Cinta Suraya at Talent Lounge in Menara Mustapha Kamal here recently.
The 22-year-old actor-model added that his relationship with his mother had gotten better and life is good.
“I learnt a lot from that bitter episode. Perhaps at that time I was just young and naive. But what is important now is my mother has forgiven me and all is well,” he said.
Although the controversy has tainted his growing popularity somewhat, Afiq said he had no regrets.
“What matters is I’ve learnt something valuable from it... I’ve become a better person and son. It’s ok if I had to start building our bond from scratch again,” said Afiq who has three other siblings.
“My mother has been my pillar of strength. She has always pushed me to give my best,” said the artiste who is now rumoured to be romantically linked to actress Miera Liyana.
“We are just friends. I just want to focus on my career at the moment,” he said smiling, when asked to comment on their relationship.
And it looks like Afiq will have little time for love, as he is now busy preparing to launch his music career soon.
After nailing it as an actor, Afiq is now looking forward to become a singer-songwriter, something that he has been longing to do.
For a start, he has enrolled himself in a private vocal and guitar classes in the Klang Valley last month.
“I want to be versatile. Under a vocal coach, I will learn the right vocal techniques,” he said, adding that, learning to play a music instrument would help too especially when he has the intention to compose tunes in future.
Known for the leading role of Emir in TV3’s hit drama series Mimpi Cinderella, Afiq said he had penned quite a number of poems based on his personal experiences.
“I enjoy writing. I hope I’ll be able to turn them into tunes,” he said, adding that he has in his personal collection close to a 100 poems to date.
Although he is launching his singing career, Afiq is not about to leave acting behind.
“I have no intentions to let go of my acting career. I hope to give my best to both areas. It will be quite challenging but doable,” said Afiq, who starred in Najwa Mahiaddin’s Got To Go music video.
On Aug 17, Afiq stars in a new TV drama series, Memori Cinta Suraya.
Directed by Mohamed Feroz Kader, the 148-episode show will air on Astro Bella (Astro channel 133), and Mustika HD (Astro channel 134) from every weekday at 6.30pm.
An adaptation of Mexico’s most successful telenovela A Love To Remember, the series also features Anzalna, Hisyam Hamid, Miera Liyana, Liza Abdullah and Iqram Dinzly among others.
