Police warns Bersih 4.0 organiser, no seditious talk or no rally

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said police will intervene if the plan for Bersih 4.0 rally set to kick off on Aug 29 and Aug 30 involves sedition.

He said police will allow the rally to take place as long as it is in line with the law but police will not tolerate if the rally is about toppling the government.

"They can voice out and express their dissatisfaction, but if there are seditious elements in their speech or calling upon public to topple the government, actions will surely be taken against them," he said.

He added that as long as the assembly does not cause disturbance to peace, it would not be a problem even if they wanted to conduct it for more than two days.

"If they want to have a peaceful assembly they can do it for three days, a week or even a month, we will not stop them.

"But if you start disturbing the public's peace, disrupt people’s lives and block access for others, this is causing disturbance to peace, Noor Rashid said.

Yesterday, Bersih 2.0 chief Maria Chin Abdullah confirmed that its fourth overnight mass rally is set to be held at Dataran Merdeka here.

She said the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) have been informed about their 34-hour rally set to kick off from 2pm on Aug 29 to 11.59pm on Aug 30.
