KUALA LUMPUR: The KL-Karak Highway remains impassable as of 10pm today.
From Kuala Lumpur, the road closure starts 200 metres from the Genting Sempah R&R area, where all vehicles are asked to make a U-turn.
Motorists travelling to and from Kuantan and KL have been advised to follow alternative routes laid out by the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA).
Earlier this evening, a major landslide hit KM52.5 of the KL-Karak Highway at approximately, effectively cutting off both sides of the highway.
Via its Twitter account tonight, MHA laid out alternative routes for motorists who are on the highway.
Motorists travelling from KL to Kuantan have been advised to use an alternative route: KL, Seremban, Bahau, Pelangai, Karak & LPT1.
Those from Kuantan travelling to KL have been urged to exit at the Karak toll and subsequently follow the Pelangai - Bahau - Seremban - route to KL.
As of 10pm, roads have remained impassable to traffic. The authorities have deployed excavation vehicles to clear the roads.
Seventeen personnel from the Selangor Fire Department's elite STORM team have been dispatched to the incident site.
Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof, in Kota Kinabalu tonight, said cleanup works were in effect. He said the workers have to take extra precautions in the event there are any more soil movements. Fadillah clarified that four civilian vehicles were involved in the incident but no injuries were reported.
