Cars set on fire out of burning revenge

PETALING JAYA: The blaze that damaged six cars parked near the Taman Jaya LRT station here earlier today was caused by a molotov cocktail.

Police said the 1pm incident started as an act of revenge by a man, who was targeting his ex-wife and her boyfriend.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din said the woman and her boyfriend were inside a Proton Wira in front of the parking area, when the suspect approached them on a scooter.

“The man and his girlfriend were about to leave the parking area, which is operated by his brother, when a man on a Yamaha Ego approached the car.

“Upon approaching the victims’ vehicle, the suspect, who was holding a molotov cocktail, took off his helmet before throwing the weapon into the Wira.

“The couple immediately exited the car, and the man tried to give chase to the suspect.”

Zani said the fire then spread to three cars parked at the scene. It is learnt that the blaze also damaged two other cars.

He said police estimated that the incident caused about RM200,000 worth of losses, while the boyfriend suffered a minor injury to the left arm.

Police are looking for the suspect, who had left a pair of slippers and a helmet at the scene.
