Arfy makes strong return at National Championships

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Asian junior champion Arfy Qhairant Amran made a positive comeback to the sport by bagging a gold and a silver on the final day of the National Track Championship in Kuala Lumpur today.

Arfy, who has been drafted into the national backup squad, emerged victorious in the men's keirin final in a time of 12.250 seconds at the Cheras Velodrome. Terengganu's Asyraf Naim Ying and Johor's Muhammad Izzat Helmi Abd Halil came in second and third in the discipline.

The Malacca-born rider had earlier in the day finished second in the men's sprint behind Khairil Adha Rasol (Johor). The latter won both rounds of the final in 13.362s and 12.024s.

Ahmad Muazzam Iman Mustaffa Kamal (NSC) took the bronze after downing Izzat after clocking 12.781s and 13.444s.

Arfy, who is eying a place in the 2017 Malaysia Sea Games team, had taken a hiatus from the sport after joining the Police force early last and had only returned to the sport in October.

• Boys' under-18 keirin final: 1 Mohd Firdaus Hadi (NSC Satellite) 11.953s, 2 Muhammad Izat Tolha (National Backup), 3 Muhammad Nur Aiman Rosli (Johor).

• Girls' under-18 sprint final: Anis Amira Rosli (National Backup) bt Ezzatie Fifiyana Syazwanie Shaiful Hisham (Trg) 13.344s, 13.404s.

• Bronze playoff: Zulaikha Mat Yusof (Trg) bt Nursyazrena Idayu Mohd Zainudin (Sel) DNS.
