KUALA LUMPUR: The MET10 Awards, which celebrates the local English music scene, will be held on Jan 16 at StarXpo Centre, KWC Fashion Mall.
With the theme "Back In Time", the three-hour event pays tribute to the weekly Met10 (Malaysian English Top 10) chart toppers on Hitz FM throughout last year.
The award categories are Best Male Artiste, Best Female Artiste, Best Band/Group, Best Song, Best Live Performer, Best Music Video and Best Breakthrough Act.
Nominees include Paperplane Pursuits, Kyoto Protocol, Elizabeth Tan, Jin Hackman, Resh, Dasha Logan, Tres Empre, De Fam, Goldfish & Blink, Balan Kashmir, Karmal, OJ Law, Roshan Jamrock, Eunice Hoo, Talitha Tan, Froya, Pastel Lite, GTXperiment, Jon Liddel, Ali Aiman and +2DB.
A jury made up of industry experts will select the Artiste Of The Year.
Jake Abdullah (CEO of Astro Radio) and Jason Lo (CEO of Tune Talk) will host the awards show.
First held about a decade ago, the award show will bring together local artistes from different generations.
Artistes set to perform include OAG, De Fam, Jin Hackman, Paperplane Pursuit and Lo himself.
"I think local English music doesn't get its fair share of attention unlike Malay, Chinese and Tamil music. The Met10 is our way of giving back to the industry," Jake said at the MET10 Awards press conference in Petaling Jaya recently.
Admission is free, but Hitz FM will be giving away VIP passes.
The event will also be telecast live on Hitz FM. Alternatively, it can be streamed live via radio and music streaming service Raku.
