Bangladeshi killed by Cameron Highlands landslide

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: A 38-year-old Bangladeshi farmhand was killed when his makeshift hut was buried under a landslide at Kampung Sungai Getan, Terisu here early today.

It is learnt that the victim, identified as Kassim Munshi, was staying alone in the hut made mainly of plastic sheets.

Cameron Highlands fire station head Muhamad Haziq Hazmi said firemen were dispatched to the scene after they received a distress call at 8.25am today.

"We managed to retrieve the victim's body, which was buried about 0.4 metres under the earth, at 9.15am and handed it over to the police at the scene," he said today.

Haziq said based on the information from the villagers, the victim had arrived here two days ago and decided to stay at the small hut in the vegetable farm where he worked at.

He said the 20-metre landslide could have occurred few hours before the villagers first realised it.
