KUALA LUMPUR: Police have doubled up their strength to avoid any untoward incidents around the city following the Jakarta attacks last week.
Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Zainol Samah said hundreds of policemen from the district have been deployed within their area to increase omnipresence and monitor any unusual activities.
“We have placed policemen at several malls within our district, we have also deployed the K9 unit and round-the-clock patrolling,” he said.
Zainol has also told shopping malls' management to advise mall-goers not to leave their luggage or bags unattended.
On Sunday, the bomb squad was called in to Pavilion KL after two backpacks were discovered left under a chair.
However, the alert, centred on Level 2 Centre Court of the upscale mall, proved to be a false alarm when officers found the bags to be full of clothes, left by two Korean tourists who later returned to claim their property.
