ALOR STAR: Kedah UMNO Liaison deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah today denied being crazy about wanting to become Kedah’s next Menteri Besar, as alleged by certain quarters.
He drew to attention the fact that he had given way in the 13th general election for Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir to become menteri besar.
Ahmad Bashah was at the time Kedah UMNO chairman and state Barisan Nasional general election director.
“I obliged and did not question because it was the prime minister’s right. It was for the strength and interest of the party and country.
“At that time our aim was to win and wrest back power from the opposition,” he told reporters here today.
The political situation in Kedah has been heating up after state UMNO leaders openly declared that they had lost confidence in Mukhriz’s leadership as menteri besar and state UMNO liaison chairman. --Bernama
