KUALA LUMPUR: A bodyguard and a night market trader were charged at the magistrate's court with impersonating traffic officers by escorting a 'motorcade' three weeks ago.
Rahiman Ghazali and Zainul Rijal Zaini, both 39, claimed trial to the committing the offence before magistrate Mohd Rehan Mohd Aris.
They were accused of masquerading as traffic policemen by using high-powered motorcycles similar to the ones used by patrol officers performing outrider services.
The offence was allegedly committed along Jalan Raja Chulan heading towards Jalan Tun Razak at 7pm on Jan 5.
The duo face up to two years’ jail or a fine or both, upon conviction under Section 170 of the Penal Code.
Mohd Rehan set bail at RM1,500 for each accused and fixed Feb 29 for mention.
It was reported that a char koay teow seller and a security guard had impersonated traffic policemen providing outrider services to VIPs and wealthy businessmen.
The suspects were clad in yellow and blue jackets that resembled those of traffic officers when they were arrested.
They had used high-powered motorcycles, blazing sirens and outrider outfits while escorting a convoy of luxury cars cutting through heavy traffic.
