KOTA TINGGI: Police arrested two men yesterday on suspicion of extorting a foreigner by impersonating police officers.
District police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said that the two suspects, both aged 20, were apprehended in Bandar Tenggara.
The police received a report from the victim at 11.55pm the night before.
"The victim claimed he was extorted by the two suspects, who were posing as police officers in Bandar Tenggara," he said in a statement today.
Following this information, police successfully detained the two local men believed to be involved in the incident.
Additionally, a Honda Wave 125 motorcycle used by the suspects during the crime was seized.
Preliminary investigations suggest that both suspects may be linked to a robbery that occurred on Sept 22 on Jalan Pahlawan, Bandar Tenggara, targeting foreigners.
"Initial urine screening tests showed that both suspects tested negative for drug abuse. They have been remanded from yesterday until Oct 11 for further investigation under Section 384 and Section 170 of the Penal Code," he added.
