SEPANG: A 14-year-old girl, detained for impersonating a medical officer at Hospital Sultan Idris Shah (HSIS) in Serdang, will be referred to a specialist hospital for a psychiatric evaluation soon.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said initial investigations suggest that the girl's actions might be due to mental health issues.
"There is no apparent motive, and she (the suspect) will be referred to a specialist hospital for a psychiatric assessment. She will be released on police bail after her remand period ends (today) while the investigation is completed," he said when contacted.
A two-day remand order was issued by Magistrate Muhammad Bukhori Md Ruslan at the Sepang Magistrate's Court on Friday.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 448 of the Penal Code and Section 170 of the Penal Code.
On Thursday, the 14-year-old girl is reported to have been arrested for allegedly posing as a medical officer for a week.
Sepang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof confirmed the girl's arrest in the lobby of HSIS.
Police also seized a scrub suit, scrub pants, and a hospital lanyard used by the suspect.
Initial police investigations revealed that the suspect had entered the hospital's operating theatre, impersonated a medical officer, and attempted to assist with surgeries.
