ALOR STAR: A religious teacher from Guar Chempedak claimed that he was forcefully handcuffed and beaten up by two policemen on Tuesday.
Mohd Na’im Zakaria, who has lodged a police report on the matter, claimed that on Tuesday night, he was riding his motorcycle past the Gurun police station when he was asked to stop at a police roadblock.
The 30-year-old claimed that a policeman with the rank of sergeant had initially politely asked him for his licence and motorcycle road tax, and subsequently queried him on his
motorcycle.
“All of a sudden he got angry and claimed that I was rude. After that he, along with another policeman, a corporal, handcuffed me without telling me what I had done wrong.
“They kicked my leg, punched my back and head, causing it to bleed. They then dragged me into the police station while still hitting me.
“They used vulgar words against me and also belittled my profession as a religious teacher by repeatedly saying ‘hang cikgu bodoh’ (You are a stupid teacher),” he told a press conference here today.
Na’im further claimed that the sergeant had also told him to “pergi mampus la dengan motosikal hang” (get lost with your motorcycle).
Na’im later sought treatment for his injuries at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, but the full extent of his injuries will only be known when the medical report is released in two weeks’ time.
When contacted, Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Md Zukir Md Isa confirmed receiving the police report and said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
He said an internal probe is also being undertaken on the policemen’s alleged conduct.
