KOTA BARU: The number of students and teachers hit by mass hysteria at SMK Pengkalan Chepa has grown to more than 110, as schools resumed here today.
The school, which was granted special leave on Thursday after a series of incidents where the teachers and students mysteriously became hysterical, reopened this morning after three days of holding cleansing ceremonies to dispel any supernatural powers or negative energy from the school grounds.
However, when school resumed today, the hysteria appeared to have returned.
Reporters were not allowed into the school compound, but screams were heard coming from inside the school grounds.
In an effort to restore “peace”, school authorities conducted a two-hour long Quran recital as well as prayers at the school earlier in the morning.
