KUCHING: DAP has blamed PKR over their seat allocations controversy, saying the latter had jeopardised the opposition pact's chances at the polls ahead of the Sarawak election.
State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the tussle for seats was due to PKR's inability to resolve disagreements within its party ranks on seat allocation.
Chong told PKR to honour the agreement made with DAP on the number of seats each party would contest.
He said some PKR members have refused to relinquish some of the seats to DAP.
"We will not entertain any more negotiations since our announcement (on candidates and state seats to be contested) will made be on Thursday.
"It is PKR's internal issue now. They failed to persuade some (of their) members to give up their seats. It is a problem that has jeopardised Pakatan Harapan" said Chong at a press conference today.
Chong said the negotiation on seat allocation was made on a "give-and-take basis", hence both parties would not get to contest every seat on their favourites list.
For instance, Chong said DAP had to give up several seats to PKR, including its most "winnable" seat - Batu Kitang.
"Our members are sad and disappointed that we had to let go some of the seats to PKR.
"Nevertheless, we managed to solve the grouses, instead of moving to claim or negotiate for more seats, over and over again," he stressed.
In a related development, Chong said the party had accepted former Sarikei DAP division secretary Wong Ching King's resignation from the party.
"I am unclear on his intentions to quit the party at this time (when the election is near). He knows better," he said.
When asked if Wong was disappointed with the party leadership's apparent decision to exclude him from contesting in the polls, Chong said the candidates' list had yet to be announced.
"After all, we can't have all members run as candidates," he said without commenting further.
