SEPANG: Fifteen people have been arrested to date for uttering the word 'bomb' in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and KLIA2 since last year.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Ali said legal action were taken against the 15, who were charged with criminal intimidation.
Aziz said using the word 'bomb' even as a joke could land a person in trouble with the law.
"Many of them were caught saying the word 'bomb' jokingly at the baggage check-in counter and in the airport vicinity.
"People must know that this not something you can joke around as it can bring about serious consequences," he told reporters today.
Abdul Aziz said, under Code 92 of the Airport Emergency Plan, the word 'bomb' is categorised
as a threat and a serious offence.
"The number of cases is on the rise and this is very worrying trend.
"We recorded seven cases last year. This year up until Tuesday (May 3), we have eight cases reported so far," he added.
Aziz said offender could face seven years' jail or a penalty that would will be decided upon by the court, or both.
