BENTONG: A group of Form Five students went through a harrowing experience when the van they were travelling in suddenly caught fire along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway this evening.
The four students from Sekolah Menengah Agama Tengku Ampuan Fatimah, Pekan were travelling to Kuala Lumpur about 5pm when they suddenly noticed thick black smoke from near the passenger’s side wheel.
The van driver, Nor Hisyam Zulkifli, 33, immediately stopped the vehicle and ordered the students to get out.
Nor Hisyam however forgot to pull the handbrake, resulting in the unmanned vehicle crashing into a nearby divider before it caught fire.
He said the van was completely destroyed in the incident but no injuries were reported.
It is learnt that the students were on their way to attend an Arabic language festival held at University Malaya.
The students later continued their journey using another van.
