Hadi asks for hudud bill to be postponed

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas President and Marang MP Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, who submitted the Private Member's Bill on the implementation of hudud in Kelantan, has asked for the debate on the bill to be postponed to the next Parliament sitting.

This was after the bill was passed in a voice vote in the Dewan Rakyat.

The bill seeks to replace existing provisions in the Syariah court's criminal jurisdiction and to allow several categories of punishments to be meted out.

Earlier on, Opposition MPs questioned Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia on why the bill was moved up in the Parliament’s Order Paper.

Teresa Kok (DAP-Seputeh) said the bill is last on the Parliament’s Order Paper, while Anthony Loke (DAP-Rasah) said it may set a precedent.

The Kelantan state assembly had approved the Shariah Criminal Code (II) (1993) 2015 Enactment with 31 votes from PAS lawmakers supported by 12 Umno assemblymen
