Aussie pilot survives aircraft crash over Cameron Highlands

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: A 56-year-old Australian pilot sustained light injuries when his aircraft crashed in Cameron Highlands today.

The plane was believed to have developed engine problems while flying over a tea plantation, forcing it to make an emergency landing behind a temple at Tringkap here at about 1.30pm.

Cameron Highlands Fire and Rescue Department chief Muhamad Haziq Hazmi said the department had were alerted to the incident at 1.35pm.

"When we reached the location at 1.49pm, the pilot had already freed himself from the wreckage," he said.

Haziq said the plane was used to spread fertiliser over the tea plantation.

Confirming a report on the matter, district police chief Deputy Superintendent Zainal Abidin Othman said the plane was based in Subang.
