KUALA LUMPUR: Grand Brilliance and Lightbulb Pictures’ feature film Pekak, garnered two main awards at Russia’s International Motivational Film Festival - Bridge Of Arts 2016 (IMFF 2016).
Its lead actor Zahiril Adzim Mokhtar won Best Actor while the movie’s script written by director Khairul Azri Md Noor a.k.a. Kroll won Best Script in the film festival at Rostov-on-Don, from Aug 24 to 28.
It competed with 10 other films across the globe.
IMFF 2016 with the theme passion for achievement and movement, is the first festival in Russia that practises the concept of maximum transparency.
On May 17, Pekak also travelled to France, where it was screened at the Marche du Film 2016, the largest screening market in Cannes, at the Palais de Festival.
It was one of five Malaysian films selected for the screening under the Malaysia Goes To Cannes programme, jointly organised by the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (Finas) and Creative Content Association Malaysia (CCAM). The other films were Redha, Taiping Adagio, Hoka Hey, A Good Day To Die and You Mean The World To Me.
Last year, Pekak was nominated under “Asean Skies” category at World Premieres Film Festival Philippines.
Pekak is a love story between urban youths Uda and Dara. He is a deaf drug pusher who resorts to selling drugs to pay for his impending cochlear implant surgery, which will help restore his hearing.
She is a troubled school girl who longs to escape from her overbearing father, and socialises with several school friends who organise in drug parties.
The film stars Zahiril Adzim as Uda, Sharifah Amani as Dara, Zaidi Omar, Sharifah Sakinah, Iedil Putra, Joe Flizzow, Chew Kin Wah and Amerul Affendi.
Pekak opens in cinemas nationwide today.
