KUALA LUMPUR: Another young man has drowned at popular picnic spot, Sungai Chiling in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor, this week.
The victim, 18 year-old college student Mustafa Kamal Allatiff Mazlan, was swimming in the river with friends and family this morning when he encountered difficulties and disappeared beneath the water.
On Tuesday, 22 year-old Muhamad Azimzulhilmi Mohd Bakri drowned during a riverside picnic in approximately the same area.
Hulu Selangor police chief Superintendent R. Supramaniam said Mustafa dove into the water and approached the famous Chiling waterfalls with his younger brother and four friends at about 11.30am.
"Initial investigations reveal that the victim was not very good at swimming, and shortly after entering the river, started shouting for help.
"His brother witnessed the entire incident and tried to help, but to no avail," said Suparmaniam.
The victim’s body was found only at 1.18pm by a team of rescuers from the KKB Fire and Rescue Department, which was dispatched to the scene after receiving a call at 12.42pm.
Supramaniam said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from KKB Hospital.
