KINABATANGAN: A 44 year-old day labourer has been arrested over the murder of his colleague who was hacked to death at a plantation here.
District police chief Superintendent A Sahak Rahmat said the suspect will be detained for further investigations into the murder of a 46 year-old Indonesian labourer.
“Initial investigations reveal the two men had argued, and the suspect, who had a parang in his hand, threatened to kill the other, as well as his family, as he was digging sweet potatoes in front of his quarters at the plantation,” Sahak said.
A fight ensued, and the suspect slashed the Indonesian on the neck between 7.30am an 8am, Sahak said, adding that he later told his family members to lock themselves in their quarters.
Two machetes, including one believed to be the murder weapon, were recovered from the suspect who was arrested at Sungai Lokan at about 3pm yesterday.
A police report was lodged and an investigative team was dispatched to the scene. The deceased was sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for post mortem.
