Indonesian man drowns after falling off ferry, body found after 3 days

KINABATANGAN: A man who went missing on Sunday after falling off a cargo ferry while crossing a river in an estate here was found drowned today.

The body of Antonius Permisi, 45, was discovered by the Fire and Rescue Department personnel around 10.30am after a search operation that lasted three days.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer Assistant Superintendent Riki Mohan Singh Ramday said Antonius, who is an Indonesia national, was found about 100 metres from where he fell.

"The victim's body was immediately retrieved and handed over to the police for further action.

"The operation team then conducted further checks to ensure that there were no other hazards before fully terminating the operation at 11am," he said today.

On Sunday, the victim was transporting fertiliser on a cargo ferry when he reportedly fell overboard while crossing the river.

The search-and-rescue operation was carried out using two boats, with the assistance of other agencies and members of the public.
