KOTA KINABALU: Another five people have been called by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today to help facilitate investigations into the country's biggest graft case.
The individuals are owners of several companies believed to have been directly involved in infrastructure construction projects with the Sabah Water Department.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki confirmed this when contacted, but declined to elaborate on the ongoing probe.
Thus far, the MACC has recorded the statements of 28 people, including department officers and contractors, following the arrests of four people, including state Water Department director and his deputy, .
Yesterday, the MACC also interviewed the director’s younger brother.
In an operation dubbed ‘Op Water’, over RM115 million in cash discovered in homes and safety deposit boxes, as well as money in bank accounts, were seized from the suspects.
Other valuables seized by the MACC were jewellery worth RM3.64 million, 94 designer bags worth half a million, nine luxury cars worth RM2.737 million and 127 land titles.
