Myanmar woman detained in attempt to cross border with fake MyKad

BUKIT KAYU HITAM: A female Myanmar national was arrested while trying to cross over to Thailand using a fake MyKad which she bought for RM1,500.

The 25-year-old woman had apparently triggered the Immigration Department officers' suspicion upon her arrival at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at 10.30am today.

Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration Department chief Nar Azaman Ibrahim said when questioned, the woman claimed that the fake MyKad was supplied by her employer in Johor Baru.

"The woman claimed that she paid RM1,500 for the MyKad, which was reported as lost," he said.

Nar Azaman said investigations revealed the woman had been working as a sales assistant at a mall in Johor Baru for the past two years and was trying to leave the country when detained.

He said the suspect had been handed over to the National Registration Department for further action.
