Three foreigners nabbed for using fake MyKads

PUTRAJAYA: Three foreigners have been detained for using fake MyKads.

The National Registration Department's enforcement division had conducted surveillance on the suspects, who worked as security guards, for two weeks before detaining the trio in Puchong.

In a statement, the division said the three suspects were aged between 27 and 55.

"Further checks showed the suspects all hailed from the Philippines.

"Investigations revealed the suspects received these MyKad's from an agent for between RM200 and RM250," it said, adding that their employers did not know that they were using fake identity cards as they did not conduct further checks.

It said the suspects allegedly used the documents in order to get hired.

"One of the suspects holds a Philippines passport while the other two did not have any valid travel documents on them.

"The suspects are all believed to have come from Basilan," the division said, adding that the suspects would be held for further investigations

It said that those detained could face a maximum three years' jail or a fine of up to RM20,000 or both under Rule 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 if convicted.
