DAP should cut all ties with 'Superman' Hew for racist remarks, says Gerakan sec-gen

KUALA LUMPUR: It is clear that there is little difference whether former DAP leader Hew Kuan Yau had resigned or not as Hew is doing exactly what he was doing before his “resignation”.

In making the statement, Gerakan secretary-general Datuk Liang Teck Meng condemned the man known as the “DAP Superman” as he continued to do numerous political talks (ceramahs) at DAP-related events.

Liang said Hew, who is not from Penang, still holds the job of curator for the Asia Comic Cultural Museum in George Town, which is fully funded by the DAP-led state government.

“It is just all so much ‘wayang’ from DAP.

“If DAP is sincere about cutting out the racism (components) from their ceramahs, (they must) fully disassociate with Hew. DAP must impose a permanent ban on Hew from giving ceramah in any future DAP and Pakatan-led events or at any events that DAP leaders attend,” he said.

Liang said DAP should also sack Hew from his Penang government curator post and refrain from any future contact with him.

“DAP should understand that having a person like Hew associated with the party will only worsen race relations in this country.

“It is time for DAP to be responsible for the hatred and racism that their ‘chief’ of ceramah has spewed all these years instead of blaming others or evading responsibility with flimsy reasons,” he added.

Liang said Hew only claimed he will resign in July 2016 after he said that the South China Sea belongs to China.

Liang also said he regretted that Hew’s infamous “screw the Malays” video which was played during the Umno General Assembly last week.

The clip featured a part of a speech Hew made in the run-up to the Sarawak state election in May.

The video, which contained subtitles in Bahasa Malaysia, showed the politician urging voters in the Batu Kitang state constituency to vote for DAP’s Malay candidate Abdul Aziz Isa so that the latter could “screw the Malays”.

“DAP is now trying to disavow all responsibility over Hew by saying he is no longer a DAP member and revising history. But no one is being fooled.”
