KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Para Asean contingent has set a target to finish second, at least on the overall standings, in next year’s Asean Para Games in Kuala Lumpur.
A total of 16 sports will be contested in the games and sports such as athletics and swimming are expected to deliver the most number of gold medals for Malaysia.
Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) president SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin is hoping that the national contingent will improve on their medal haul from the previous edition in Singapore where they finished third overall with 52 gold medals.
According to SM Nasarudin, finishing second will be a more realistic target.
Other sports to make up the 16 are archery, badminton, boccia, chess, cycling, football five-a-side, CP football, goalball, para powerlifting, sitting volleyball, table tennis, bowling, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis.
SM Nasarudin also explained that sailing and shooting had to be dropped as it did not meet the requirement which states that a sport must be participated by at least four countries.
