SUBANG: National car company, Proton took home two prizes at the Malaysia Automotive Institute's (MAI) Malaysia Car of the Year 2016 awards held at The Saujana Hotel here yesterday.
The company's latest products, the new and refined Saga bagged the Value-for-Money Car award while the Persona won the Most Improved Model in Fuel Efficiency award.
Proton Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said its market study had shown that Proton has made significant refinements to its lineup of cars to meet the general requirements of the market.
"Both the Saga and Persona are designed for those who are looking for value for money vehicles which are affordable, safe and equipped with practical features to complement their lifestyle.
“We are truly humbled and very pleased with this recognition. Both the Persona and Saga were very well received by Malaysians when they were launched," he said in a statement.
Among the refinements made included improved Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) levels, fuel efficiency and the Eco Drive Assist feature, which was a first for Proton.
The cars were also installed with active and passive safety features that scored a five-star and and four-star New Car Assessment Programme for the South East Asian Countries (Asean NCAP) rating for the Persona and Saga respectively.
