Good public transport a boon for country

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has launched Phase One of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) from Sungai Buloh to Semantan, covering 12 stations and 21km at a cost of RM21 billion, with RM2 billion in cost saving.

The MRT will ease the lives of commuters, who will be able to beat daily congestion with only 30 minutes travelling time by MRT.

Phase Two, which starts operations next July, covers 51km from Sungai Buloh-Kajang and has 19 stations and travel time takes only one hour.

Once Phase Two is completed, it will reduce an estimated 400,000 cars on the road and help people save on petrol and toll costs, and wear and tear of their vehicles.

The MRT and Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail Link are a boon, for modern, efficient transportation will improve people’s lives.

The 350km High-Speed Rail Link includes six transit stops, taking only 90 minutes travel time. The project will cost between RM50 billion and RM60 billion.

It is also going to be a game changer for both countries on many fronts, boosting bilateral relations, connectivity, pushing property prices, improving tourism and creating an
estimated 30,000 jobs for our
graduates, which will reduce
unemployment in tough economic times.

Money well spent on improving transportation systems with greater corporate governance will win public confidence for our leadership.

Efficient transportation systems make travelling better and safer for everyone.

The MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line and High Speed Rail Link operations are poised to transform transportation into a connected, dynamic component of the nation.

Travelling to a neighbouring country with less hassle will have a positive impact on the quality of life for residents, visitors and businesses.

We must be mindful of our aspiration to be a first-world nation but our weaknesses must be strengthened with good maintenance and a culture of safety.
