Truck with hazardous liquid catches fire on Sungai Besi highway

KUALA LUMPUR: A tanker truck carrying hazardous chemical caught fire at the Seremban-bound stretch of the Sungai Besi Expressway today.

City Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Samsol Maarif Saibani said six firemen were deployed to the location to control the fire upon being alerted at 7.20pm.

The fire razed 50 per cent of the tanker but the driver was unhurt in the incident.

Firemen spent about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

Samsol said preliminary investigation showed that the fire started at the rear tyre of the tanker, and it quickly spread to the chemical load.

Samsol said the worn out disc break was believed to have triggered a spark that led to the fire.

The tanker was on its way to Seremban from the city centre.
