Puskas Award-winner Faiz gets RM20k incentive from Kedah FA

ALOR STAR: Kedah-born footballer Mohd Faiz Subri received a RM20,000 cash incentive from the Kedah Football Association (KFA) for his historic achievement in winning the FIFA Puskas Award 2016 last week.

The reward was presented by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah at a ceremony at the Menteri Besar's official residence, Seri Mentaloon, tonight.

The KFA president said Faiz's success should be emulated by Kedah youths.

"We are proud of his achievement. To achieve success at this level is not easy. Never in history has a Kedahan won such an award," he said.

Ahmad Bashah said that the state government would also look into ways to secure a discounted house for Faiz.

Faiz made history when he became the first ever Malaysian and Asian to clinch the prestigious award, presented to him at star-studded 2016 FIFA Football Awards in Zurich on Monday.

The 29-year-old Penang player who hails from Ayer Hitam in Jerlun, received the highest votes from fans all over the world for his ‘physics defying’ free-kick, defeating two other finalists for the goal of the year award.

Faiz meanwhile expressed his gratitude for the incentives given by KFA.

He said that it would help boost his spirit to continue giving his best on the pitch.
