ALOR STAR: Kedah gold medallists in individual events at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 in Sarawak will receive a cash incentive of RM4,000 from the state government.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said RM1,000 will be given to gold medallists immediately after their victory, with the remainder awarded when the athletes return.
He said the immediate incentive was to boost motivation among the state's 383 athletes.
"We want to encourage our athletes to strive for victory. Gold medallists will get RM1,000 on the spot, silver RM500, and bronze RM300.
"Our target is 23 gold, 24 silver, and 25 bronze medals, aiming for 10th place among the 15 contingents competing at Sukma," he said after presenting the Kedah contingent's flag at Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium today.
Sanusi said athletes winning silver medals would get a total of RM2,000, and bronze winners will take home RM1,000.
"For sports with two athletes, the immediate incentive is RM500 for gold, RM250 for silver, and RM150 for bronze each.
"For sports with three to six athletes, each will receive RM300 for gold, RM150 for silver, and RM100 for bronze.
"For sports with seven or more athletes, each will get RM200 for gold, RM150 for silver, and RM100 for bronze," he added.
Sanusi said the sports events expected to contribute medals to Kedah included cycling, judo, squash, sailing, Pencak Silat, and wushu Sanda.
"Although only six sports are highlighted, the Kedah government has high hopes for the other 26 sports being contested.
"I am told that the Kedah contingent is poised to deliver surprises that will make us proud," he added.
