Flash flood robs poultry farmer of RM100,000, 18,000 chickens

SABAK BERNAM: A flash flood which occurred following a heavy downpour has caused a chicken breeder in Sungai Nibong to suffer a huge loss of RM100,000.

Mohd Azizi Mohd Toha, 29, had lost some 18,000 of his livestock to the flash flood. He only realised his chicken coops have been flooded when he went to check on the livestock in Parit 11 Baroh at about 5am this morning.

The businessman said he had checked on the fowls last night as a precautionary measure as it was raining heavily.

“At that time, the floodwater was not so high and it did not affect my chicken coops. However, when I went back at around 5am, thousands of my livestock were already dead and floating in the water,” he told reporters.

He said the rain, which started on Monday evening did not stop until this afternoon, had led to his farm being inundated in about 0.3m deep water.

“This is the first time such incident took place since I started this farm 15 years ago. I never thought that the floodwater would rise this quick.”

Azizi said he was left with only some 2,000 poultry and he has since moved them to another farm.
