Two jobless men admit to bundling, throwing woman into Klang river [VIDEO]

SHAH ALAM: Two unemployed youths pleaded guilty at the Shah Alam Sessions Court today to attempted murder of a woman by throwing her into the Klang River last Monday.

Mohamad Aidilfitri Mohd Powet and Muhammad Afiq Jamli, who are friends and aged 20, were alleged to have committed the crime at about 11am on Feb 6 at the Kemuning-Shah Alam Highway in Section 24.

They were accused of assaulting Misnah Sri Wahyunengsih, by bundling her into a gunny sack, bounding her feet and throwing her into the Klang River.

The charge sheet stated that their actions were intended to kill her.

Aidilfitri, clad in a blue collared T-shirt and Afiq, in a purple round neck T-shirt, nodded when asked if they understood the charge read to them before Sessions Court judge Slamat Yahya.

The duo, who were unrepresented, are facing a 20 year jail term for the offence under Section 307 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

Deputy public prosecutor Naliatul Huzaimi Ab Rasip had asked for adjournment of the case and sentencing as a behavioural report from the Social Welfare Department was needed.

She said the report was required before a decision could be meted out because both of the accused are young offenders.

"As both of the accused are not 21-years-old on the day of the incident and as of today, I ask for the adjournament so that the department can prepare the behavioural report," she said.

Slamat fixed March 15 for decision pending a behavioural report from the department.

He also told both the accused that the offence was non-bailable and they would be detained until March 15.

It was reported that the woman had struggled in the water for about 30 minutes before a motorist spotted her.

The passer-by then alerted the Fire and Rescue Department as well as the police, who rescued her.

The woman, a factory worker, was half-conscious when she was brought out of the water and was subsequently warded at the Shah Alam Hospital.
