PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a general manager of a government agency for allegedly abusing his position to awarding more than 50 projects worth around RM1 million to two companies owned by his wife.
The 62-year-old man was arrested in an operation code-named 'Ops Nafas' by MACC officers at 11am today.
His 38-year-old wife was also arrested.
In a statement today, the anti-graft body said the suspect began his abuse of power in 2014, when he was serving as a deputy general manager. He was appointed general manager last year.
“Based on information gleaned from sources, the suspect is also believed to be directly involved in the supply quotation procurement process and was also responsible for approving payments to his wife's company.”
MACC said it has confiscated several documents detailing projects that were awarded to the wife's company for investigation purposes.
The companies owned by the wife were established in 2010 and 2015.
MACC Investigation Division director Datuk Simi Abd Ghani, confirming the arrest, said the suspect will be brought to the Putrajaya Court for remand procedures.
