Leet Academy grads get opportunity to start own business

Leet Academy is being launched to enable unemployed Malaysian graduates to learn how to start their own technology-enabled business.

The full-time programme facilitator is a joint venture involving iTrain Asia, 1337 Ventures & Talent Intelligence and TalentCorp.

This intensive nine-week course is aimed at changing the mindset of graduates of working for big corporations to one of creating a business and being one’s own boss.

Participants will be equipped not only with technology skills such as mobile and web development, but also managerial and soft skills such as sales, communication, customer service and project management.

The criteria for joining the programme are:

• must be Malaysian citizens;

• aged 27 years and below;

• attained CGPA of between 2.0-3.0; and

• unemployed.

“It is from our experience of mentoring start-ups and entrepreneurs in Malaysia and Southeast Asia that the average graduates are usually more hungry and passionate in starting their own business,” said iTRAIN Sdn Bhd CEO Bikesh Lakhmichand.

“We strongly believe with that conviction and the set of fundamentals we’ve put into the programme, it will give the graduates a higher chance of success.”

iTrain will be selecting 50 participants for the Academy’s inaugural intake.

Applicants will undergo an interview process to determine their qualification for joining Leet Academy.

Selected participants will be able to join for free and will be based out of 1337 Ventures accelerator space for an additional four-month internship stint after the course, to work on their respective ideas. Industry leaders as well as subject matter experts will be conducting the lectures and mentoring the participants for six months.

The Academy’s comprehensive syllabus is based on an all-rounded learning plan encompassing key aspects of entrepreneurial, technical and soft skills syllabus.

These include Start-up Idea Validation, Digital Marketing & Analytics, Web & App Development, Communication Skills, Essential Selling Skills, Customer Service, Soft Skills and Project Management Essentials.
