SHAH ALAM: Police obtained a remand extension against a man arrested on Thursday as part of investigations into Pastor Raymond Koh's abduction and the extortion of his family.
The 32-year-old man's four-day remand, which began on Thursday, has been extended to March 15, Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat told the New Straits Times today.
"We will continue to investigate and give priority (to this case)," he said briefly, declining to elaborate further.
On Thursday, the man was arrested in Ampang at 3.30am after he made a ransom demand to Koh's family for his release.
Investigations are on-going under Section 365 of the Penal Code for abduction and Section 385 of the same code for extortion.
Selangor police chief Datuk Seri Abdul Samah Mat earlier said that the man had contacted Koh's family a day earlier, asking for a ransom payment in exchange for his release.
It has not be determined if police have managed to ascertain what happened to the pastor, or his whereabouts.
On the morning of Feb 13, Koh is believed to have been abducted by masked men at Jalan SS4B/10, less than 100m from a police housing complex.
A 2.53 minute-long video of Koh’s alleged abduction surfaced soon after and went viral on social media.
The video allegedly shows Koh’s kidnapping by 15 men in seven vehicles in just under a minute, in what appears to be a well-planned and professionally-executed operation.
A special task force led by Fadzil has been set up to investigate the case.
