JOHOR BARU: A tuition teacher who had allegedly beaten her 7-year-old student with a rotan so severely that she left marks on the boy, tried to erase the wounds by applying a heated wok to the boy’s buttocks – leaving him with second-degree burns.
After enduring the horrific abuse, the boy managed to escape his tuition teacher’s house and hid in a neighbouring home yesterday. The homeowner, who discovered the boy, contacted his 24-year-old sister and related what had happened.
The boy's sister, who lodged a police report on the incident, said she discovered that her brother had been abused at the female tuition teacher's house, in Taman Perling here, for the last two weeks.
The police report, lodged at about 8pm last night, states that the boy suffered second-degree burns and scalding after a wok and cups, soaked in hot water, were applied to his body in a bid by the teacher to remove severe rotan marks.
Photos of the boy’s badly-injured body, which were submitted as part of the report, were also circulated on social media, to the horror of netizens.
Johor Baru Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Taib Ahmad confirmed the incident, and said it is being investigated under the Child Act 2001.
He said a suspect has been detained for investigation.
