ALOR STAR: A 30-year-old man was beaten up by a group of men at a shopping complex in Jalan Putra here for allegedly molesting a salesgirl.
Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rozi Jidin said the man, from Jalan Kuala Sungai Yan, was reported to be in critical condition due to severe injuries to his head following the attack.
He said in the 4pm incident yesterday, the man was alleged to have followed a 21-year-old salesgirl to the ladies' toilet on the first floor of the shopping complex before attempting to molest her.
He said man was also claimed to have hit the woman’s face and stomach when she put up a fight and tried to escape.
“The woman screamed for help and several men who heard her cry, then came to her aid,” he said.
Rozi said the district police have received two reports; one from the salesgirl on the alleged molest incident and one from the man’s sister on the mob assault.
He said police are investigating the case under Section 354 of the Penal Code for molesting and Section 326 of the same Code for voluntary causing hurt.
