Four teenagers charged with the murder of Nhaveen

GEORGE TOWN: Four teenagers, including two underage boys, were charged in the magistrate’s court here today with the murder of 18-year-old T. Nhaveen.

J. Ragesuthen and S. Gokulan, both 18, and the two other boys, aged 16 and 17, were alleged to have caused Nhaveen’s death at Pusat Pembelajaran Karpal Singh in Jalan Kaki Bukit here between 11pm and 12am on June 9.

They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

No plea was recorded from the accused.

The four, handcuffed together as they stood the dock, nodded in understanding when the charge was read to them before Magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid.

No bail was offered to the accused and the court fixed Aug 29 for mention.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Fatin Hussin prosecuted while the accused were unrepresented.

Earlier at the Sessions Court, the four were also charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means to T. Previin, 19.

They claimed trial to the offence at the same time and place before Judge Irwan Suaibon.

It was reported that Nhaveen was viciously assaulted by a group of five boys as he was returning home with his friend T. Previin, 19, last Saturday morning.

It was alleged that the attackers had inserted a foreign object into his anus during the assault. He later slipped into unconsciousness.

Previin also sustained injuries, but managed to escape and get help.

Police managed to locate the five suspects soon after the incident.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar said one of the suspects detained have been released with bond under Section 118 of the Penal Code.

“He would be produced as the prosecution witness,” he added.

Nhaveen succumbed to his injuries at Penang Hospital at 5.31pm on Thursday.
