GEORGE TOWN: A man with 100 outstanding traffic summonses from over the last 10 years was detained by police in a special three-hour traffic operation at Jalan Patani here yesterday.
The 30-year old salesman was found to have failed to settle summonses involving various offences, including illegal parking.
“The inspection found that 97 of his outstanding summonses were from the northeast district, while others were from other areas in this state.
“All the summonses have yet to be settled,” Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar told reporters after the operation which began at 10am.
The operation saw the issuing of 220 summonses over various offences including beating red lights, using mobile phones while driving and not wearing seat belts.
A total of 14 arrest warrant notices were issued to motorists who had not settled their outstanding summonses. -- BERNAMA
