KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC) over the purchase of another luxury hotel in Kuching, Sarawak.
The four star’s hotel was believed to have been acquired at a price far higher than its original value.
Probe into the hotel’s purchase was triggered following MACC investigation’s over FIC’s purchase of a four-star hotel in London between 2013 and 2015.
Initial investigation revealed that FIC could have also incurred losses worth millions due to the purchase of the hotel in Kuching.
“The investigators are analysing all information received and are expected to visit FIC’s office in several locations to gather documents and other evidence, soon,” a source said.
MACC investigations director Simi Abdul Ghani confirmed that his officers have started gathering information on the purchase of the hotel in Kuching, adding that the probe would focus on determining whether there were elements of graft and abuse of power in the deal.
MACC chief Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad had earlier this month directed his team to open investigation paper into the purchase of a hotel in London.
The London property comprised 62 units of guest rooms and two units of three-bedroom serviced apartments.
