Dog foils attempted armed robbery in Klang

KLANG: Five robbers armed with parang had to flee empty handed when their victim set his dog on them at Bukit Bayu Tinggi here on Sunday.

Following the 10.28pm incident, police apprehended one of the suspects at a house in Taman Sentosa here at 2am today.

Klang Selatan police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsul Amar Ramli said the robbers attempted to rob the 40-year-old man, who was in front of his house at the time of the incident.

“The victim was standing nearby his car when five men, armed with long parang and wearing masks, arrived in a sports utility vehicle.

“Upon spotting the robbers, the victim immediately ran to his house and opened the front gate to let his dog out to chase the robbers away.

“The robbers immediately ran back to their vehicle and sped away. The victim did not sustain any injuries in the incident,” he said.

Amar said police received a report on the incident, which was caught on CCTV. The CCTV footage went viral on social media after it was shared by the victim's friend.

He said investigations led police to a house in Taman Sentosa, where they arrested a 30-year-old suspect.

Checks later revealed that the suspect is a hardcore criminal with a long rap sheet of 27 previous criminal cases.

After taking a urine test, the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine.

Amar said police will apply for a remand order against the suspect to facilitate investigations into the case, which will be investigated under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery.
