PUTRAJAYA: The magistrate’s court here today allowed an application to extend the remand of a former special officer to ex-Felda chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad.
The remand extension was granted to assist investigations into Felda Investment Corporation’s (FIC) purchase of a luxury hotel in Kuching, Sarawak.
Magistrate Muhamad Safuan Azhar allowed the application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to extend the remand of the 51-year-old for three days, from tomorrow until Aug 8.
The suspect, clad in MACC orange lock-up attire and handcuffed, was the fourth individual brought in to assist in the probe into the purchase of the luxury hotel.
His case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
Yesterday, three company directors detained to assist in the investigation were released on MACC bail amounting to RM200,000 each.
Two of the suspects, aged 47 and 51, were directors of a company which was appointed as an agent to carry out the purchase in 2014.
The other suspect, aged 57, was a director of a company which owns the hotel in question.
FIC’s 2014 purchase of the posh Kuching hotel, which features 213 guest rooms and apartment suites, had raised suspicions of corruption and abuse of power.
It is believed that FIC paid between RM40 million and RM50 million more than the actual market value of the hotel.
