SUBANG JAYA: A police lance corporal was found murdered inside the Pinggiran USJ police station this morning, believed to have been shot from close range.
Investigators believe the victim, 29-year-old Valentino Mesa, may have been shot with his own service firearm, which is now missing.
Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the victim also had a slash wound behind his head.
He said the incident was realised by the victim's colleagues when they returned from a routine patrol at 3.25am.
"When the Mobile Patrol Vehicle unit policemen arrived, they saw that the station was in darkness.
"One of them then went to the front desk counter and saw the victim lying face down on the floor. The policemen then switched on the lights and saw the victim covered in blood, wounded on the head.
"There was also a gunshot wound on his back," he told reporters at the scene.
Mazlan said investigations suggest that the incident could have happened about 2.40am, as witnesses who were around the area heard a loud bang at the time.
He said the witnesses however did not suspect anything amiss, as they thought it was just firecrackers set off by people who were celebrating Merdeka.
He said Valentino, who hailed fron Sarawak had been serving in the force for seven years.
The victim leaves behind a wife.
Mazlan said police are still investigating the motive for the attack. They believe the attack could have been committed by more than one person.
