Puchong 'steering lock video' incident now a police case

KUALA LUMPUR: The case involving a woman who wielded a steering lock while screaming angrily at a municipal council officer will be investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

Serdang district police chief assistant Commisioner Megat Mohd Aminuddin Megat Alias said the section carries a maximum two years’s jail or fine or both, if convicted.

He said the incident took place at Jalan Puteri ¼, Bandar Puteri Puchong at 1pm, when a Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) was about to tow a woman’s vehicle which was parked in a lot reserved for the disabled.

“As her car was clamped and about to be towed, she became angry and wielded her steering lock in front of the MPSJ officer”.

The one minute, 37 second-long viral clip of the incident began with the woman standing outside her car, wielding a steering lock and yelling angrily at a council officer.

She had yelled at the officer, asking him if it was “wrong for her to buy food.”

The officer replied: “No, it is not wrong for you to buy food. But you parked your car at a wrong spot (at a spot for the disabled).

The woman angrily retorted that she had nowhere else to park, and that she was buying food for her disabled husband.

The officer, who remained calm throughout the situation, said she needed to show proof that she was indeed assisting her disabled husband.

The person recording the video, who is believed to be another MPSJ officer was then heard urging his colleague to ask for the woman to produce an “Orang Kurang Upaya” (OKU) card.

The woman however failed to produce the OKU card. Megat said police had received a report lodged by the MPSJ officer at about 7pm.

“The car was towed to a MPSJ depot in Puchong. At 2.45pm, the husband of the woman went to the depot and paid the fine.

“He had also apologised for his wife’s unruly behaviour.”
