Rapid rescue: Firefighters save toddler locked in car

PENAMPANG: A one-year-old boy was rescued by firefighters after being locked in a car for about 20 minutes in the parking lot of an apartment on Jalan Bundusan here this afternoon.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Operations Center officer Assistant Fire Superintendent Riki Mohan Singh Ramday said they received an emergency call at 6.30pm.

A team of six firefighters and a fire engine from the Penampang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was dispatched to the scene to rescue the victim.

"Upon arrival, the toddler was found locked in a Proton Saga car. The fire team used special equipment to open the locked car door," he said when contacted today.

The car door was successfully opened, and the boy was found safe.

"The victim was handed over to his family, and the operation was under control by 6.50pm. The operation ended six minutes later after ensuring there were no other hazards at the scene," he said.
